John has had a close association with choirs and choral music for 20 years, having started singing in the church choir at St. Thomas’, Stopsley at the age of 8. He is now Director of Music at the same church, having moved gradually from singing to being the organist and then leading the choir. John has studied piano and organ at all grade levels and is soon concluding studying a degree majoring in Music. Alongside his directorships at Luton Male Voice Choir and St. Thomas’, John also leads the Bushmead Singers, a community choir based in Bushmead, Luton.
John joined us initially as Assistant MD and Accompanist, but took on the role of MD soon afterwards due to the departure of his predecessor. John is looking forward to building on the excellent work of the previous MDs and leading the choir onwards into the future.
Tony has been associated with all types of music for many years. Initially trained as a classical pianist he achieved all grades in the Trinity College exams. He was invited to join a local jazz band called ‘The Leasiders’ and was with them for some years before joining a dance band which ranged from a quartet to a 15 piece band. During this period he joined the Vauxhall Motors Ladies choir as accompanist; it was with them he played at The Albert Hall. He then accompanied the Vauxhall Male Voice Choir.
Tony has been with The Luton Male Voice Choir from soon after it was formed and looks forward to many more years of service with the choir.
